Equilibrium

HD video, 15 min, 2017

The Equilibrium video by Dominik Gajarský combines a non-plot visual component with personal narration. It follows author´s interest in animals,  their humanization and their relationship with humans. In this video, we can see a snake and a goose talking, which resembles a fable. Their stories are inspired by true events and news, which the author encountered on the Internet. Emotions like fear, loneliness and disappointment are expressed by the animals with a thrilling credibility. Monologues of the animals even include passages from classical literature on relationship between drugs and modern thinking.

Dominik Gajarský graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, subject Atelier of the New Media II. With this Equilibrium project, he was a finalist in the Jindřich Chalupecký Award in 2017. The author mostly uses photography and moving images with a special feel for analogue technique including its history.

Infinityhedron

Installation, application of augmented reality, 2019

3D site-specific installation by Ivo Louda contrasts with the architectural layout of the University Square. He transforms matter into lines. In order to view the combination of reality and augmented reality on your device, you must firstly download a special app. Louda works with the theme of volume and its de-mattering. He connects digital and material world. In his post-graduate project at FUA TUL named the Model systems, he explores the phenomenon of a model as a tool and outcome of a 3D visualization. He considers the model to be a separate original piece of work, although it is commonly used for representing an idea, functional prototype or a template for production. The author speculates what role can the current software, hardware and technologies play in connecting the physical and virtual worlds.

In the Park

Installation, timber, polystyrene, plaster, paint, wood sawdust, 2018

The installation of Lukáš Machalický, made as an intervention in the permanent exposition of the The Liberec Regional Art Gallery, represents the most current approach to the installations of collections and their permeation. Contemporary arts are in communication with the works of old or modernist masters, and this dialogue opens up a new layer of insight into art and its perception. The In the Park installation takes the viewer into a model environment of vague rules and mixed size ratios.

Lukáš Machalický uses the exhibition as a medium. His installations use a detail as an essential part of the whole. The author graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. In 2011, he founded the SPZ Gallery with Robert Šalanda and together they lead the Atelier of Painting I at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.

Vibration interference, traces of motion

Installation, mixed media, 2017–2018

Martina Machová extends her diploma thesis on the topic of unclear definition of space and boundaries – the Vibration interference. Fine objects and interventions interconnect the media with the observer and keep them in suspension through their interactivity. The viewer comes closer, the installations start moving, their contours blur and shapes seem impossible to capture. Delicacy, minimal change and time. Natural artefacts combined with motors and sensors.

In her work, the author engages in a topic of minimal difference on a long-term basis. She regularly combines analogue / traditional and digital media. Martina Machová graduated from the Atelier of Visual Communication at the FUA TUL in Liberec under prof. Stanislav Zippe.

5) Jan Měříčka (*1955, Pardubice, CZ)

10. 5. – 29. 5. 2019, 10. 5. v 17:00 Vernissage | Small Exhibition Hall | nám. Dr. E. Beneše 2/10, Liberec

Open daily 10:00−17:00, Thursday 10:00−18:00 (free entry on Thursdays), Mondays closed. On Saturday 11. 5., during the commented tour the entry is free. A usual fee applies to all other days according to the MVS^L price list.

The Sea

Serigrafie, 2017–2019

Jan Měřička updates the series of screen prints inspired by the sea for the current exhibition. The Sea series (2017-2019) arises at the impulse of a particular experience and documentation of the author in Cardiff, UK. Linear drawing creates the illusion of space, individual layers pervade each other. The unfinished process refers to a non-fixable surface. Installation in the Small Exhibition Hall reinforces the theme of space and its layering.

Jan Měřička uses for his thematically consistent cycles various graphic techniques with frequent screen printing accent. Large formats resonate with current ecological, political, and social issues.

6) Stěna Gallery (*2018, Liberec, CZ)

15. 5.– 31. 5. 2019 | FUA, TUL, Karel Hubáček Atelier | Husova 1290/75, Liberec

open 24/7, 15. 5., 17:00 Vernissage, 17:30 unveiling of the installation by Ivo Louda

In the scale of this year´s Art Week, the Stěna Gallery brings a concept of a retrospective exposition of previously exhibited projects. Visitors can look forward to a range of art works in a variety of media such as paintings, graphics, installations, videos, applications and more. For this gallery experimental space, which is defined by the wall size of 12.5 x 3.8 m, and the space in front of the wall, the retrospective presents a challenge, in which authors respond to specific spatial possibilities.

The student faculty Stěna Gallery pervades the working space of a large shared studio and builds on a tradition of famous school galleries such as the 207 Gallery at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, Panel Gallery of the Department of Photography at FAMU or the Rampa Gallery at the Faculty of Art and Design at UJEP in Ústí nad Labem. The curatorial project Stěna Gallery by Pavla Zemanová was the winner of the 20th jubilee JFK (Ještěd F Kleci) Award, the legendary student competition of the FUA TUL.
